• What's happening?

  I, Thinus Matthysen (Co-Founder of Addicted2Adventure.co.za) invite all fishermen to join me on an epic adventure!

  We are heading to a small private island on the upper Zambezi river in Zambia, Africa, to catch some tiger fish. On arrival at the island, you will unpack and have a cold one. The en-suite accommodation has a view over the river. Every day you can choose whether you want to do some fishing in the morning/s and/or afternoons. The traditional mokoro boat will be your ‘transport’ on the beautiful river.

  Of all Africa’s freshwater fish, the tiger fish is one that stimulates the imagination for it has a well-deserved reputation for aggression and its electrifying runs and leaps, upon being hooked, are legendary. A tiger fish is not only, arguably, our hardest-fighting freshwater fish but it is also renowned for its escape tactics and the landing rates are invariably described as being low. It used to be said that, for every 10 takes, an angler could count on hooking one fish and for every 10 tigers hooked, only one was landed. That is an overstatement these days but one can never count one’s chickens, so to speak.

  Fishing for tigers is exhilarating. It encompasses an air of anticipation, not only because of the thrill of subduing a hard-fighting ‘striped water dog’ (perhaps even an outsize one) but also because of the superb natural surroundings in which one invariably finds oneself. There is, as well, an unpredictability to savour, for who knows what adventure each new day will bring?

  BONUS: We will also visit the majestical well known massive waterfall, Vic Falls, from the Zambian side. Here, the Zambezi River plummets over a cliff and into the ‘boiling pot’ before flowing through a series of gorges.

• About the Venue

  The small private island is approximately 14 hours or 1 190km’s from Joburg, South Africa. If driving, you will enter through Groblers Brug/Martins drift border post (Botswana/South Africa Border) and the next border you enter through is the Kazungula Border Post, crossing the mighty Zambezi with the ferry into Zambia. From there it’s approximately 40mins to this special island. If you choose to fly we suggest you fly to Livingstone Airport – 45mins from there to the island.

  You can only access the island by mokoro boat which will be arranged by Addicted2Adventure.

  The ‘facilities’ on the island:

  • 4 x 2-bed en-suite huts overlooking the Zambezi river. 2 People to share
  • Open air boma area where meals will be prepared on fire and enjoyed around the fire
  • Open kitchen area with cupboards, a table, cooler boxes (filled with ice on a daily basis), cutlery

• Activities

  You will be spoiled with:

  • Tiger fishing, tiger fishing and even more tiger fishing
  • Traditional mokoro boats to fish from. Fishing from the shore also allowed
  • Chilling on the island far away from everyone and everything
  • Swimming in the natural ‘jacuzzi’ (subject to water level and safety)
  • Sunset mokoro trips
  • ‘Kuier’ around the fire and play card games/ party tricks (bring your own)
  • Visit to the Vic Falls from the Zambian side

• What to wear and pack

  Holiday clothes (remember a hat, sunglasses and bring sun screen), fishing equipment (if you prefer to bring your own), bedding (if you want more than the ones we provide), towels, cameras to capture the fun and your adventurous spirit 🙂

  Paper work:

  • If driving with your own vehicle, bring your vehicle’s original registration documents. Should your vehicle be financed, please request a letter from your bank giving you permission to cross the border
  • Passport (no visas required for SA citizens). All other nationalities to get their visas beforehand – no visas available at the border (this info subject to change at any time without prior notice)
  • Cameras to capture the fun
  • Please check on AA’s website for more info re. the crossing of borders ie. which stickers to place onto your vehicles and trailers

Kindly do note that you have to fish on this trip as we won’t be organising any other excursions for this trip except for a quick stop at the Vic Falls on the Zambian side

• More to know

  • Passports are required to enter Botswana and Zambia; South African passport holders do not require visas. If you hold any other passport please check beforehand if you require a visa. Visas can be obtained through the Botswana Embassy and the Zambian Embassy. (this info is subject to change without prior notification). Ensure that your passport has 3 empty pages at the back, is still valid for 6 months on day of crossing the border and in a good condition
  • The currency is Pula but the Rand is accepted everywhere. No credit card facilities accepted but ATM’s are available in Livingstone, which is about a 40min drive from the island
  • We will stop at filling stations en route which will be discussed prior to departure
  • International roaming should be set up on your cell phone at least one week before we depart – we have to be able to get hold of you in case you get lost
  • There is usually police road blocks en route, please make sure that you have your driver’s license and that your car documentation is up to date
  • Under normal conditions a 4×4 is not needed to get to the island. There is a 200m drive on the sand to Elephant Sands, this will require your vehicle to have a higher clearance than a sedan
  • There is no grocery store on site
  • Any alcohol and food products should be hidden when crossing the border
  • Please note: the island, as well as Elephant Sands are based in Mother Nature, we expect from you to be cautious at all times as the game wonders everywhere. This is Africa!
  • The water at the island is fresh river water – we would however advise that you buy bottled water in Livingstone when we take you to buy supplies.
  • Zambia is a malaria area, please beware and take the appropriate precautions. Please take your own basic medical aid kit

  If you want to cross the borders (between South Africa & Botswana and South Africa & Zambia) – this is what you need with you:

  • Police road blocks are a common occurrence. Please make sure that you have your driver’s license at hand, that your cars’ license disk is up to date and that your car is equipped with the compulsory items such as warning triangles, fire extinguishers, ZA stickers on the back of your vehicle and trailer etc. Consult with your local outdoor shop ie. Outdoor Warehouse for advice and purchasing of items. Do remember that you are a guest in these countries and that a bit of courtesy and respect will get you a long way. This info is subject to change without prior notice, please double check with the Embassy’s
  • Advice – we’re talking out of experience here: make certified copies of all of the above documents and ask your travel friends to each keep one in case you should lose your file. Also bring a spare car key and ask someone in your travel party in a different vehicle to keep it in their safety – you don’t wanna be stuck in another country or just far away from home because you lost your key!

  • Complete the online A2A booking form and send your proof of payment (only EFT payments accepted, no direct deposits at bank) for the deposit/full amount to info@addicted2adventure.co.za (see banking details on booking form) within 24hrs. 1st come > 1st served.
  • A R2 000pp non-refundable deposit is required to confirm your place. Closing date for deposits is when trip is fully booked
  • Balance due latest Fri, 15 May 2020
  • Your payment is non-refundable as we will pay it over to the suppliers. You can send a replacement with our consent.
  • We will send you a confirmation letter to confirm your booking within 72hrs. If you haven’t received your confirmation letter you are NOT booked. Please make sure that we have received your booking form and payment.
